Babies galore
It’s been an eventful week and a half! We celebrated Father’s Day by visiting Phil’s dad during the day and then had dinner with my dad and entire family in the evening. Since it was also my sister and her boyfriend’s 11th anniversaryl, she chose Saigon Fusion to celebrate the occasion - the same restaurant where they had their first date. What can I say, she’s the sentimental type.
Despite the slow service, we all had a good time. Since it’s so difficult to get a big group like ours together, it was great to have a good visit. During the lull before dinner was served, my sister Marilyn, suggested that my dad open his presents. He complied. He started with the card. He opened the envelope and pulled out a card featuring pictures of adorable babies. He read the card carefully. When he was done, he had a huge grin on his face. The card said, “Happy Father’s Day! Surprise you’re a grand dad again!” He told us the good news and we were all estatic! I had a feeling Marilyn was pregnant because when she walked into the restaurant, she looked like she was wearing a maternity top. I asked her if she was pregnant, but she didn’t answer. I took that for a yes.
It’s been nearly nine years since we’ve had a newborn in our immediate family so we’re all excited for her. She’s due in December and is looking forward to every minute of motherhood. I think she’ll be a great mom. She’s the kind of woman who will volunteer at her child’s school bake sale or be part of the PTA. Well, she timed he pregnancy just right - by the time she’s ready for a sitter, my kids will be old enough to fill the job!
Soon after Marilyn’s thrilling news, we found out that our nanny is expecting as well. It’s fantastic. She already has a little boy and he’s a complete angel. By the time her second one is due, he’ll be three, a good age difference for the two. Over the last few weeks, she knew that something was going on because she was tired and just not feeling herself. Sure enough, a quick vist to her doctor confirmed her suspicion. I think my daughter is the most excited of us all. From time to time, she’ll ask me for a baby sister. Now with my sister and nanny expecting, I’m hoping one of them has a girl to satisfy her desire for a little girl around the house.
