September Stats

Well, the numbers are in! The housing market continued at a good clip in September and it looks like we’re going to have a solid market well into the fall. According the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, sales of attached, detached and apartment properties increased by 17.5 per cent last September compared to September 2004. On a transaction basis, that’s a difference between 3,344 units sold in 2005 compared to 2,845 sales for the same month last year. That’s incredible.

Attached properties enjoyed the largest gains, with a 51 per cent increase in sales for September compared to September 2004. Second on the list was detached properties. Sales for September 2005 were 25.9 per cent higher compared to the year earlier. Surprisingly, September sales for apartment properties were comparable to sales for the year before. If you want to be exact, sales for apartment properties increased by less than 1 per cent in September 2005 compared to September 2004.

If you’re curious how specific areas in the Lower Mainland fared, here’s a quick summary. The area that saw the biggest gains in apartment sales last month was Port Coquitlam with an increase of 20.6 per cent compared to last year. Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows took the lead for attached and detached properties with increases of 125 per cent and 80 per cent respectively. Let’s see if these areas can hold on to these gains next month!
