A new home in the family

It’s always exciting when a family member purchases a new home. It’s even more exciting when the house is in a good neighbourhood, close to family and in the right price range. Well, that’s the good fortune that befell my sister Marilyn. I have been discussing the benefits of home ownership with her for quite some time now - not just because we’re in the business, but because I really care about her. And now that she and her husband are expecting, she has all the more reason to find a house. I know she could manage with a little one in her one bedroom and den apartment, but for how long?

So the search began. She just didn’t know it yet. My other sister had been emailing her listing of potential homes. Since Marilyn never specified what she wanted, Jenn, our other sister, simply sent her anything that had good potential. Now you could imagine the number of listings that fit that bill. The areas ranged initially from strictly Burnaby (to keep Marilyn close by) and went as far out as Coquitlam. Nothing appealed to her.

Then just yesterday I was driving through my neighbourhood and noticed a for sale sign on a home very close to my own home. I quickly told Marilyn about the new listing and we both viewed it that night. Since it was a new listing, the home generated a lot of attention, but we were determined to get it. After hours of negotiations, we managed to leave the negotations with an accepted offer. It was truly a win-win situation for all.

Everyone in the family is of course very excited about the news. And with a new baby on the way, I’m sure Marilyn is delighted that she’s less than two minutes away from a babysitter!
