Birthday party
Today is my sister Marilyn’s birthday, but I’ll be kind and not disclose her age! She is however, very young at heart. Let’s just put it this way - every Sunday Marilyn and the kids argue over who gets the head chair at the dinner table. Marilyn, being the bigger (and more stubborn ) kid always wins.
I always enjoy family birthdays because they’re a great reason to celebrate. Since I’m close to all of my sisters, I suggested that we all get together and surprise Marilyn by taking her for lunch today. It was perfect timing too. Turns out she was in a rush this morning and didn’t have time to pack a lunch. So we went to her office at noon and took her to La Spaghetteria in New Westminster. La Spaghetteria is a great local Italian restaurant owned and operated by Salvatore. Years ago, Marilyn worked as a hostess there so that place has special memories for her.
We all had a fantastic lunch. Every dish is delicious. Our waiter did a great job of taking care of us. He even brought out a slice of St. Honore cake and sang Marilyn happy birthday. It was a nice way to wrap up a fun family lunch. (These are times when I’m especially thankful that I have a flexible enough schedule to make time for special occassions like today.)
There a number of other notable events coming this month. Father’s Day is just around the corner. And my youngest sister with be celebrating her and her partner’s 11th anniversary. Seeing all the festivities around the corner, I guess I’ll have to hit the gym soon…
