Real estate update

The Burnaby real estate market has been extremely busy for us the last couple of months. That explains why we haven’t posted anything in a while. It’s funny, just when it seems like we’ve run through all of our inventory (that’s how busy we’ve been), calls for home evaluations flood our phone lines. It’s great timing! We recentlly listed a couple of townhomes at 6662 Dunblane that have been getting a lot of attention. We also have a townhouse complex at 5261 Victory that has been gettting a number of calls. As the prices for homes in Burnaby continues to increase, demand for apartments, townhomes and half duplexes have gone through the roof. It’s interesting because buyers who waited two years ago to get into the market (with the belief that the market was too high then) are reluctantly buying now because they don’t want to pay any more than they have to. Unfortunately, they’re paying $100,000 more for a home in Burnaby now because the market is just that much higher. So in that way, the housing market is much like the stock market. It’s hard to say when we’ve reached the peak. One, two years ago, many people thought the market couldn’t get much higher, but here we are, with prices higher than they’ve ever been. And we don’t see this trend backtracking (at least significantly anyway). With the 2010 olympics heading our way, housing prices in the Lower Mainland will only rise and buyers will be heading further out (Mission is a good possibilty) as a result.

On the lighter side, family life has been busy as well. With the end of the school year just around the corner, we’ve been busy wrapping up with year-end dance performances, school concerts and the like. The big event in our house this week is the release of Star Wars. The kids aren’t huge fans of the movie, but all the press and marketing about this final installment of Star Wars has gotten them excited about it. I think they’re just looking for an excuse to skip school on Thursday! One of their uncles is going to the midnight screening on Wednesday night and the boys are hoping to join them. I told them they’d have to wait until the weekend because unlike their uncle, they’re not allowed to take the following day off! Have a great week!
