A day in our life

April 22nd, 2005
The Burnaby real estate market is still holding steady. Usually, our schedules are filled showing our mid-priced homes, but latey, we’ve been outrageously busy with our higher end houses. It just goes to show that demand for high end homes goes in waves. Sometimes, we have apartment and townhome buyers flooding the market. Other times, we have more buyers interested in expensive homes, which seems to be happening for us now. But just because many of our listings have been selling doesn’t mean we’re slowing down anytime soon.

In fact, just last night, I worked until nearly 11pm. My day started early, as usual. I’m up no later than 6:30am.

Jump In

April 21st, 2005
A number of weeks ago, we discussed the powerful impact the Power Within workshop had on us. Most times, workshops are great in getting you fired up for the afternoon, but then the next day, that feeling of trying to improve sales, lose that weight, start that business, or live your best life has disappeared along with hefty price tag you paid to attend the seminar. Fortunately, this one was different for us.

I think a lot of it had to do with Mark Burnett, one of the amazing speakers that day, and producer of the successful Survivor series. Mr. Burnett’s latest book Jump In takes his lessons and insights one step further. One of the

Here comes the sun

Now that the weather is getting warmer, the kids have been spending more and more time outside. And we’re all for that. It’s a nice break from seeing them couped up inside in front of the TV or computer. Lately, the kids have been pre-occupied with the latest and greatest in kids’ footwear: roller shoes. Roller shoes are runners with a wheel attached to the the heel of the shoe. They can be used as regular runners or, if you shift your weight onto your heels, the runners become mini roller skates. They are quite cool, but I must warn you. They can be dangerous. Our son, who plays hockey regularly, eased into the skates with no problem. He would roll

Weekend activities

April 18th, 2005
Another busy weekend as usual! We decided to stay in on Friday night and watch a movie with the kids. We watched Spanglish and were pleasantly surprised. The movie featured Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni, but let me warn you that it was not Adam Sandler’s typical role. He plays a married man with who’s very involved with his kids. Since he and his wife, played by Tea Leoni, live an active life, they hire a Spanish nanny to help around the house. The movie then weaves the lives of these two families to illustrate the highlights and frustrations of raising children. It was an entertaining movie reinforcing the joys and challenges of family life. Rent it the

Check twice

My sister recently purchased a revenue property in Abbotsford. It’s a well-kept apartment in a convenient part of town. She was very excited about buying her first rental property. And she had good reason to be excited. Becoming a landlord for the first time is a big step.

The interesting thing about this apartment is that the property management company also manages all the rentals. On one hand, there’s less hassle involved because the property manager collects the rent and basically takes care of any problems in the building. This is a great feature if you’re a hands-off kind of investor - someone who simply wants a rent cheque deposited

Spring is here

April 8th, 2005
Well, looking at the weather today, it looks like Spring is here. (But given our finicky weather, I could be wrong tomorrow!) Life and work have been busy since Spring Break wrapped up. Although our son is finished his regular hockey season, he’s now in a spring league, which is just as busy as his regular schedule. Between driving the kids to hockey, dance, and skating practice and rushing from appointment to appointment, there’s not much time for anything else. Thank goodness we have fantastic help to ease our load.

This weekend, it’s our turn to host the weekly Sunday dinner. Several years ago, it was apparent that with everyone growing

Back to the grind

April 5th, 2005
Well, Spring Break is definitely over. The kids are back in school and we’ve settled back into our daily routine. No more sleeping in late, watching TV all day or staying in PJs all day - for the kids anyway! Our son wrapped up his winter hockey league last weekend. Going in, we weren’t sure what to expect. We’ve played against the other team before and they’ve beat us in the past. This time, however, we cleaned up! After three periods of energetic play, our team came out on top. We came number one in the league. Needless to say, everyone was thrilled with the results. It was a well-deserved win for the team.
